Don't get your knickers in a twist, it's a tent erection. As our little club continues to grow, we must change our way of thinking and doing things. When we go for drives, we can no longer just pull off a road. Now, when the lead car pulls off, he (or she) must make sure that there is enough space so all the following cars can pull off the road as well, leaving no one hanging back on the highway to be rear-ended. That being said, the time has come to stop fitting 20 people at a car event in a small shelter that can only fit half that amount of people. The time has come for a BCCCB EVENTS TENT!
After a very wet (and amazing) British Car Show in Windsor Nova Scotia, the British Motoring Festival, I felt the time had come for better protection from the elements, be it rain or the hot summer sun. We had out grown Brian and Gloria's very appreciated shelter, so I search for the best deal I could find, for the right size tent, to accommodate all the members who attend these events. I found one, a deal was struck, and wouldn't you know, the first tent was lost in the mail. Holy Crap! The company I purchased it from was easy to deal with and another tent was sent. Now to do a test erection. It was a crazy summer, it was either to wet or to hot to do a test erection and finally, after a email from Peter Smith, a few from the BCCCB has shown up at my place for a test run. We had myself, Lee, Joe and Peter and 49 pieces of numbered pipe. 2 goes into 4 and 3 goes into 10.. OH MAN! But we figured it out.
It wasn't that bad as you can see, it took about 20 minutes, it was a little wonky going up but once the roof is on, it all stays tightly together. Working feverishly together the main structure was now together and time for the sides. As Joe and Lee fastened one end piece, I left Peter to fend for himself on the other end, I ran to get the camera. Bob's your uncle, complete.
The tent has clear plastic windows on the entire front and rear length and solid panels with zippers for doors on each end. This should keep the BCCCB crew dry and warm on the rainy days, as well as keep us all from being burnt up on the sunny days. Now on the windy days, I think it's everyman for him or herself as I am not sure how durable it will be in a brisk wind. Hopefully we'll never have to find out. Now, one last thing to have this tent erection complete, approval. I ran in the house to get Paula and Jean Renzi out for their honest opinion and with these two, we all knew we were going to get just that, an honest opinion. Yeah! We got the nod of approval, it's a winner.
And here we are, the erection connection, Myself, Lee, Peter and Joe. I think to suit our purpose we will make a few changes, like, larger guide rope stakes and perhaps some eyelets and the bottom of the panels to keep the wind from lifting them. All the tubing now has colored tape on them to make matching them up easier and the resin connections has colored tape to coincide with the proper tubes to speed things up, perfect. Now to wait for the next occasion that requires a tent for the first official use... Can't wait!
There was more today then just a tent erection. Today, after we finished, we were treated to tea and some great tasting cake that Jean Renzi had brought. Also, Joe had brought a couple of memory sticks with pictures of their awesome journey to the "old country" Italy. Just amazing pictures to say the least, and the narration was perfect. Joe and Jean had told us stories to go along with the pictures being shown on our large TV. What a great way to spend the afternoon.
You know how it goes..... If you weren't there, you missed it. Come along next time.
